The interrupted fern is a slow grower but eventually makes a large plant. 'Interrupted' in that the fertile fronds have pinnae either side of the reduced fertile pinnules. An incredibly ancient fern, with fossil records dating back 200 million years. Likes a moist soil in partial shade. Deciduous.

The Royal Fern will tolerate normal soils in shade but really moisture is needed to allow the plant to develop properly. Pea green fronds in Spring that colour to a rich yellow and russet tones in Autumn. Deciduous.
